Yeehaw From Space: Surrealist Portraits

Date: December 2020 - April 2021

Title: Yeehaw From Space: Surrealist Portraits

Medium: Photography and Digital Collage

Series Summary:

This series of collages imagines myself and two friends as characters in an Afrofuturistic sci-fi western landscape. This surrealist imagining was conceived during peak covid isolation and in the midst of the 2020 racial reckoning. I yearned for access to nature/green space, for the freedom of the expansive sky, and for the company of my friends and community. I was experimenting with photo and video collage during this period to create images that brought my community together in a variety of settings and scenarios. This series was born as one subset of this exploration. I had a green curtain, my phone, a tripod, a cowboy hat, photoshop, and a dream!
