Through my works I articulate my interest in afrofuturism, worldbuilding, identity formation, belief system formation, and unrefined joy and pleasure.

As a multidisciplinary artist, curator, and educator, I believe the intersection of these three lenses is important in creating art experiences and learning environments that inspire people to dream.

As a learning scientist, my approach to teaching and learning seeks to challenge traditional models for knowledge creation, by affirming the affective knowledge of Black, brown, and queer communities through inquiry, critical reflection, and hands-on activities.

As a teaching artist, I apply learner-centered pedagogy to create workshops, presentations, curriculum, and interactive making opportunities. Through these, learners explore the histories, contexts, methods, and concepts in the artwork and curated projects of myself and others. I then support them in harnessing art and creative expression to imagine their own alternative futures and build a better tomorrow.

As a learning scientist and educator, I have two education degrees. A Bachelors of Science and a Master of Science in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University. I have been working either part-time or full-time in educational settings since 2014. My first teaching job was as a Swim America instructor for toddler and grade school aged kids in 2014.

As an artist, I’m primarily self-taught. However, I owe my understanding of design principles and color theory to my High School Art Teacher Hoan Tran (appreciate you!). I also started exploring mixed-media assemblage in her studio art class in 2015. This was the start of my interest in gathering and arranging objects into artworks, and what later developed into my multi-modal collage practice. Hoan is also a big inspiration for me as a teaching artist, her passion for art education has led to her making wonderful partnerships with art museums and local government to create opportunities for her students.
