The Intuit Art Museum Teacher Fellowship welcomes a cohort of teachers to explore the history and contemporary practices of self-taught artists. It then supports them in bringing those ideas into their classrooms through curriculum development and lesson planning. Through this program, I developed and incorporated five months of self-taught art-based programming into my full-time role at Northwestern University. In this role, I support the learning and professional development of a cohort of 17 students who staff and cultivate two affinity spaces, the Black House and Multicultural Center. Inspired by the work of Dela Wells and Thomas Kong, I guided them to create a collective collage exploring their experiences as students of color working in affinity spaces/cultural centers, imagining how they can apply the values of this work outside of these spaces towards alternative futures. This program heavily utilized practices of critical reflection, collage, and inquiry-based learning models. The artwork the students created through this program is included in the 2026 Intuit Art Museum Teacher Fellowship Student Exhibition.
